Theme customization

You have a theme. It needs one more thing.

A section, a feature, or a fix, added cleanly to the theme you already run.

Most Ghost sites are eighty per cent right and stuck on the last twenty. We change what needs changing without turning your theme into something nobody can update later, and we tell you up front when a change is a bad idea.

Your theme stays updatable afterwards

Works with

Any Ghost theme

Any Ghost site, whoever built it

Before you pay

Fixed scope

Agreed in writing, so the price cannot move mid-project

Why this is worth paying for

The cheap version
costs more later.

Anyone can make a change that works today. The difference is whether your theme still works in six months.

Your theme stops updating

Changes made directly on top of a purchased theme are wiped the next time its author ships an update, or they block you from taking that update at all. Both are avoidable, and both are common.

It works on the developer's screen

A new section that looks right on a laptop and collapses on a phone, where most of your readers actually are. Every change here is checked from 320 pixels up.

It breaks something quiet

A styling change that stops the paywall showing, or a script that slows every page. The damage shows up in your numbers weeks later, not in the handover.

Nobody says no

Sometimes the change you asked for is the wrong fix for the problem you have. Being told that costs an email. Finding out costs a rebuild.

Typical jobs

What people
actually ask for.

If yours is not here, it almost certainly still fits. These are just the ones that come up every month.

A homepage that leads properly

A featured slot, a section for your best work, or a layout that stops treating every post as equally important.

A landing page that converts

A page built for one job: signing up members, selling a course, or launching something.

Advertising that does not look bolted on

Sponsor slots, house ads, and newsletter placements built into the design rather than dropped on top of it.

A paywall that reads better

Changing where the wall falls, what the prompt says, and what non-members see before they decide.

Mobile that actually works

Menus that trap you, tables that overflow, text you have to pinch to read. Fixed and checked on real screen sizes.

Bringing an old theme up to date

A theme written for an older Ghost, updated to run on the current one without losing what you liked about it.

Connecting other tools

Analytics, comments, search, a booking widget, or whatever else your publication runs on, wired in without slowing the site down.

Making it yours

Fonts, colours, spacing, and detail so a bought theme stops looking like a bought theme.

Making it faster

Oversized images, blocking scripts, and the other reasons a page takes four seconds when it should take one.

The boundary

Where the job
starts and stops.

Customization changes a theme you already have. Past a certain point, building fresh is cheaper than bending what is there, and we will say so.

Included

The changes in your agreed scope, built and checked

Tested on phones, tablets, and desktops before you see it

Done so your theme can still take its author's future updates

A note explaining what changed, so the next person is not guessing

One round of revisions on the agreed work

Lives elsewhere

Redesigning the whole site. If more than about half the theme is changing, a fresh build is cheaper and better. Custom development

Something is broken right now. An outage or a live failure is a different, faster job. Troubleshooting and fixes

Translating the theme. Its own job, with its own checks. Theme translation

Changes to our own themes' core behaviour. If you own an Enova Studio theme and want something it does not do, tell us. It may become a free update for everyone instead of a bill for you.

Open-ended revisions. One round is included. Further changes are quoted, so the price stays a price.

Before you ask.

The things worth knowing before you hand over a theme.

Can you work on a theme you did not build?
Yes, and most of this work is exactly that. Free themes, premium themes from other authors, and custom themes built by someone who has moved on. We read the theme first and tell you what state it is in before quoting.
Will I still be able to update my theme afterwards?
That is the whole point of doing it properly. Changes are made so your theme's own updates can still be taken. Where a change genuinely cannot survive an update, we tell you that before starting, so it is your decision and not a surprise.
How much does it cost?
It depends entirely on the change, which is why there is no price on this page. Describe what you want in an email and you get a fixed number back, usually within one business day. If the job is small, we will say that rather than pad it.
Do you touch my live site?
Not until you have seen the change. Work happens on a copy, you review it, and only then does it go live. Your readers never see a half-finished version.
What if I am not sure what I need?
Describe the problem rather than the solution. "Readers keep missing our best posts" is more useful than a spec, and it often leads to a cheaper fix than the one you were about to ask for.
I bought one of your themes. Is small stuff free?
Questions about the theme always are. Settings, setup, and anything that turns out to be a bug in our theme get fixed for free. Custom work specific to your site is what this service covers.

Describe the problem,
not the fix.

Send your site address and what is bothering you about it. You get a fixed price back, and an honest word if there is a cheaper way to solve it.

What happens next: you get a reply within one business day, with a fixed scope and a fixed price. Nothing starts, and nothing is charged, until you agree to both.

Not the job you have? We also do these.
