Content migration

Move to Ghost without losing what you built.

Your posts, your members, your paying subscribers, and your search rankings all arrive intact.

Migrations go wrong quietly. Links break, formatting collapses, images point at a site you already switched off, and the rankings you spent years earning disappear. We move everything across, keep your old links working, and show you the whole site on a private copy before anything goes live.

Why this is worth paying for

What a bad migration
costs you.

Most of these are invisible on day one and expensive by month three. They are the reason migrations are worth doing once, properly.

Every old link stops working

Your addresses change shape on the new platform. Anyone following a link from a newsletter, a bookmark, or another site lands on nothing, and the search rankings attached to those pages go with them.

Posts arrive as walls of text

Headings flatten, pull quotes turn into paragraphs, embedded videos and tweets vanish, image captions disappear. Years of work suddenly reads like a first draft.

Images point at the old site

A rushed import often leaves pictures loading from the platform you are leaving. The day you switch that account off, every image on your site turns into a broken box.

Paying members get lost or charged twice

The most expensive mistake there is. Subscribers get asked to sign up again, billing dates reset, and some quietly never come back. Refund requests follow.

What comes across

Everything, and
we mean everything.

Here is the full inventory, so you can check it against what you actually have before you email anyone.

Your content

Posts and pages. With their headings, quotes, lists, captions, and embedded videos still in place.

Every image and file. Copied onto your new site, not linked back to the old one, so nothing breaks when you close that account.

Authors and bylines. Each writer keeps their name, photo, and back catalogue.

Tags and sections. Your existing structure, rebuilt the way Ghost organises things.

Your old addresses. Every old link is pointed at its new home, so followers land in the right place and search engines carry your rankings over.

Your audience

Free subscribers. Everyone on your list, with the date they joined and where they came from.

Paying members and their billing. Subscriptions and renewal dates carry over. Nobody is asked to enter their card again.

Who can read what. Free, members-only, and paid-only posts stay behind the right doors.

Your newsletter. Set up and tested with a real send, so your first post out of the gate actually arrives.

Your own domain. Pointed at the new site with the padlock working, on a schedule you pick.

Not on the list? Ask anyway. If your content can be exported, it can almost certainly be moved.

The boundary

Where the job
starts and stops.

A migration is a move, not a redesign. Keeping those separate is what keeps the price and the timeline honest.

Included

Everything in the two lists above, moved and checked

A private copy of the finished site to review before it goes live

Your theme installed and set up on the new site

The switchover itself, at a time you choose

Two weeks of checking in afterwards, in case anything surfaces late

Lives elsewhere

Designing a new look. Pick one of our themes, or have one built. Custom development

Rewriting or reorganising your posts. We move what you have. Editing it is your call, and your voice.

Features Ghost does not have. If you rely on something with no Ghost equivalent, we tell you before you commit, not after.

Ongoing search and marketing work. We protect the rankings you already have. Growing them from there is a different job.

Paying for Ghost itself. Hosting is billed by Ghost or by your server provider, never by us. Free setup on Ghost Pro

How it runs

You see it working
before you commit to it.

No switchover happens until you have clicked around the finished site yourself and said go.

  1. We look at what you have

Send us your site address and roughly how many posts and subscribers you have. We check what will move cleanly and what needs care, and tell you honestly if anything is going to be awkward. No charge for this part.

  2. You get a fixed scope and a fixed price

In writing, before anything starts. It lists exactly what moves and what does not, so the number cannot change halfway through.

  3. We build it on a private copy

Your whole site, migrated, on an address only you and we can see. Your current site stays untouched and online the entire time.

  4. You check it, then we switch over

Click around, spot-check your favourite posts, test the paywall. When you are happy, we point your domain at the new site and turn on the redirects that keep your old links working. Usually a matter of minutes, at a time you choose.

  5. We watch it for two weeks

Some problems only show up once real readers arrive. We keep an eye on the links, the newsletter, and the sign-ups, and fix anything that surfaces in that window as part of the job.

From our clients

Who you are actually hiring

Every project is led personally by Kasun Jayarathna, a Certified Ghost Expert. These are clients who hired us for this specific piece of work.

“Working with Kasun has been such a breath of fresh air. He’s responsive, knowledgeable, and so pleasant to deal with. We handed him our large, legacy pop culture site consisting of over 50K articles and pages spread over 4 different versions of the website over the years, with a complex ad integration and all kinds of customizations required to make things look seamless to our readers, and he nailed it.”

Before you move.

The questions people ask when they are about to hand over a site they care about.

Will my search rankings survive?
That is the part we protect hardest. Every old address gets pointed at its new home, so a reader following an old link still lands on the right page and search engines pass your standing on to the new address. Rankings usually wobble for a week or two while search engines re-crawl, then settle. The sites that lose rankings for good are the ones that skipped this step.
Will my paying members have to subscribe again?
No. Their subscriptions and renewal dates come across, and nobody is asked to enter card details again. This is the single most expensive thing to get wrong in a migration, so it is checked line by line before you go live and again afterwards.
How much downtime will there be?
Effectively none. Your current site stays live and untouched while the new one is built on a private copy. The switchover is a change of address that takes minutes, and we schedule it whenever suits you, including a weekend or the middle of the night.
Can I see it before it goes live?
Yes, and you should. You get a private copy of the finished site to click around before anything changes. If something is not right, it gets fixed then, not after your readers find it.
My site is enormous. Is that a problem?
No, but it changes the timeline and the price, which is why both are agreed up front. The largest we have moved so far was over 50,000 articles and pages spread across four generations of one site, with its advertising kept intact. Large archives take longer to move and much longer to check properly. Tell us your post count in the first email and we will be straight with you about what it means.
What happens to my comments?
It depends where they live now. Comments held by a separate service can usually come across or keep working as they are. Comments stored inside your old platform are harder, and sometimes cannot move at all. We check yours during the first look and tell you which case you are in before you commit.
Do I need to buy one of your themes?
No. A migration works with any Ghost theme, including a free one, one you already own, or one built by someone else. If you do want one of ours, it gets installed and set up as part of the move at no extra charge.

Tell us where
you are moving from.

Send your site address and a rough post and subscriber count. You will get an honest read on what moves cleanly, what needs care, and what it costs.

What happens next: you get a reply within one business day, with a fixed scope and a fixed price. Nothing starts, and nothing is charged, until you agree to both.

Not the job you have? We also do these.
